Every year, we celebrate National eSmart Week.

This is a time to have important conversations about children’s online safety and digital wellbeing and acknowledge the work of schools and communities across the country in supporting students to be safe and responsible online.

This year, National eSmart Week will run from Monday, 30 March to Sunday, 5 April.

We are also pleased to announce that the theme for this year’s National eSmart Week is Be Connected. Be eSmart.

While connection can be one of digital technology’s greatest benefits, not all young people have the same access, and for Australians under 16, access to many digital platforms has changed. It’s also important to acknowledge that, while digital tech can help young people feel more connected, it can sometimes do the exact opposite.

This year’s theme is about encouraging healthy connections – to peers, to families, and to technologies that can support young people to thrive.

Throughout the week, we’ll be hosting a variety of free events, both online and in-person. These will include Storytime sessions, webinars for educators, workshops for parents and carers, and activities for the classroom.

We also have an exciting project in the works related to eSports that we’re not quite ready to talk about yet, but we will be sharing more details on that very soon.

If you’ve participated in eSports before and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.

Last year, National eSmart Week had over 500 registered participants, and our Storytime sessions reached 30 schools and 925 students. This year, we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout.

National eSmart Week subscribers will receive a free eBook direct to their inbox, which will include a calendar of virtual events, links to resources and lesson plans, and tips to help educators and students share their eSmart experiences.
