eSmart is proud to partner with over 2,500 schools and libraries across Australia, taking a whole-of- school approach to supporting safe digital practices and building connected communities.

We’re excited to announce that the eSmart Teacher Forum is back in 2023. It’s been some time since we’ve hosted an in-person event for schools so we can’t wait to see you!

Join us at our free National eSmart Week Teacher Forum on Friday 26 May at the Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville, Victoria.


Teacher PD hours

In participating in the eSmart Teacher Forum, you will receive a certificate acknowledging 5 hours of PD aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST). By attending the full day, you will be demonstrating learning in the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST), which will count towards your 2023 annual registration application.

What to expect

This is a free professional development, in-person gathering for teachers and other school staff throughout Melbourne and wider Victoria. This event will be an opportunity to connect with like-minded educators interested in building a unified approach to supporting children and young people to thrive online.

What will you learn?

  • Hear from our keynote speaker, Dr Lucinda McKnight who will be delivering a presentation on the power of harnessing AI in education, discussing ChatGPT and  how you can best use this technology for teaching
  • First-hand insights from Sue Cahill, Student Wellbeing Leader at St Charles Borromeo Primary School into how to create and maintain whole-school engagement and buy-in with parents, staff and school leadership (Sue has led the eSmart implementation at St Charles Borromeo, the first school to become eSmart in Australia)
  • Learn more about the eSmart Suite, including how eSmart is developing in 2023
  • How to boost student agency and co-design practices in your school
  • Explore the ways that positive change has been created in Australian schools through embedding eSmart practices

Registration is free, quick and open to all education professionals in Victoria.

Places are limited. A maximum of 2 participants from each school are warmly invited to attend.  

Schedule

9.00am – 10am: Arrival, registration & welcome from Sarah Davies AM, CEO the Alannah & Madeline Foundation

10.00am – 10.45am: Creating whole-school buy-in

Sue Cahill, Student Wellbeing Leader at St Charles Borromeo Primary School (the first school ever to become eSmart) will share her insights on creating and maintaining whole-school engagement with parents, staff and school leadership.

10.45am – 11.00am: Morning tea

11.00am -12.00pm: Harnessing the power of AI in education - presentation and question time

Delivered by Dr Lucinda McKnight, Senior Lecturer in Education (Pedagogy and Curriculum) at the School of Education, Deakin University and researcher at Deakin’s Centre for Research for Educational Impact.

12.00pm – 1.00pm: Pick your stations

During this session, several presenters will share insights on a range of topics and programs relating to online safety - you'll have the option of choosing the stations that most take your fancy! If you’d like to learn more about the funded programs that Victorian schools have access to, including Digital Licence+ and Media Literacy Lab – this is the time for it.

1.00pm – 1.30pm: Lunch

1.30pm – 2.45pm: Student agency and co-design

Part B) Online safety co-design workshop

Delivered by the Program Design and Innovation team at the Alannah & Madeline Foundation

2.45pm – 3.00pm: Final wrap-up

3:00pm: eSmart Teacher Forum concludes
